Shillong, Apr 6: One Deepak Thapa has been sentenced to 25 years’ rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty of sexually assaulting his own daughter.
The sentence was delivered by the Special Judge (POCSO), Shillong, on April 1.
The case goes back to October 2022 when an FIR was registered at Rynjah Police Station accusing Thapa of penetrative sexual assault, a statement issued by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated on Monday.
The case was investigated; a charge sheet filed and the accused remained in judicial custody for 3 years, 5 months and 26 days during trial.
On April 1 Judge R Rymbai delivered the verdict, convicting Thapa and sentencing him to serve the remaining 21 years, 6 months and 4 days. He also faces an additional three months if he defaults on the fine imposed for the offence.
