A man, identified as Dawansame Najiar (33) died by drowning in the Myntdu River today.
Information was received by police at around 11:30am and, on reaching the spot at Mutong Syntu Ksiar, they found that Najiar, a resident of Jowai, had drowned.
The special rescue team of the Fire and Emergency Service in Shillong was called on and recovered the body at around 3:30pm.
Legal formalities were observed and, as no foul play was suspected, the body was handed over to family members after a post-mortem exemption was obtained.
