Shillong, Jul 25: A man was arrested and confessed during his interrogation by police yesterday in South West Khasi Hills that he had sexually assaulted his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
On Wednesday an FIR was received from a woman from Rajaju village stating that she had been informed by a neighbour that the complainant’s husband had sexually assaulted the minor daughter. The accused is the victim’s stepfather.
On enquiry, the victim later revealed that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her four or five times since January. A case was thus registered at Mawkyrwat Women Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the suspect was arrested on Thursday.
Police stated that during the interrogation he admitted to the commission of the offence and he was subsequently taken to court where police asked for 14 days’ judicial custody.
