A 38-year-old man has been arrested under the POCSO Act for sexual assault and impregnating his 15-year-old stepdaughter.
The issue came to light when her mother found out about the pregnancy, when she took her minor daughter to a health sub centre on July 1.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said, “When she (mother) questioned her about it, she stated that her step father had sexually assaulted her on many occasions.”
Syiem said the minor could not recollect the date of occurrence. He said the child was referred to Ganesh Das Hospital and was discharged on July 7.
The SP said the accused was arrest last night from Syad, Umsning under Ri Bhoi district after many attempts.
A case has been registered at Mawlai Police Station under section (j)(ii)(l)(n)(p)/6 of POCSO Act read with Section 351(2)BNS,2023.
