One man has been arrested by West Khasi Hills police in connection with the recent double murder in Nongstoiñ.
Assistant Inspector General of Police GK Iangrai informed that the man was arrested in the Nongrim Hills neighbourhood of Shillong and that “material evidence” was seized from his residence.
The person was identified as 24-year old Bankhrawkupar Nongbri. Police recovered mobile phones of the victims and Rs 64,500 from his possession.
West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Herbert G Lyngdoh said as per preliminary investigation the accused admitted he was solely responsible for the murder.
The victims are identified as 79-year-old Phlisis Syiem and 22-year-old Maitlynti Lyngdoh Marshillong, an orphan from Tiehsaw village, who stayed in the house.
Police said that the women were murdered on Monday night and their bodies were discovered by villagers Tuesday morning.
