Ri Bhoi police arrested a man accused of instigating a pressure group to carry out an inspection at the Resource Rubber Private Limited.
The man identified as Donald Rymbai, who claimed ownership of land at one of the factories, was arrested today after an FIR was lodged by the owner of the factory.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Banraplang Jyrwa said that the man also failed to comply to the order of the executive magistrate to maintain peace and tranquility.
On July 22, members of the Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) had descended on the factory in Mawsmai after Rymbai claimed that the owner of the factory Joginder Pal Kapoor has not paid rent since 2022 and that the factory was operating without proper paperwork.
A heated argument took place during the inspection after the owner of a factory refused to cooperate with the HYC’s demands to produce documents relating to whether the facility was being run legally or not.
Kapoor had referred to a statement made by the Chief Minister last week that no one other than government officials had the right to inspect companies’ or migrant workers’ documents.
