The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress has demanded action against the police escort that rammed and killed a youth near ICAR complex yesterday evening.
Condemning the incident, state Mahila Congress president Joplyn Scott Shylla said the action of the police personnel, who was driving the Mahindra Thar, deserves suspension and he should be dismissed.
“The NPP-led government should pay for the loss of life of this young man,” Shylla said and slammed Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for not ordering an inquiry or taking any action on the incident.
The Mahila Congress through the media expresses its condolences and prayers to the family of Hudderfield Rymbui.
The victim was killed on the spot when a police escort vehicle leading a VIP convoy allegedly hit his two-wheeler (ML05 AD 0566) while he was on his way to attend the Cherry Blossom Festival along with a female friend.
The female pillion rider, Daphisha Dkhar who received minor injuries, claimed that the police vehicle hit their two-wheeler and sped away.
She further claimed that other police vehicles which were following the first one did not stop even after noticing the incident.
Meanwhile, a case was registered at Umiam police station case no 108(11)2024 U/S 281/324(1)/106(1) BNS .
