The East Jaintia Hills District Administration has called on the public to provide information into the mining accident at Krem Ule in Umpleng on Sunday last.
A public notice signed by the Additional District Magistrate, MS Sangma said that a magisterial inquiry into the mishap will be conducted.
“Anyone having any knowledge about this matter is requested to depose at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Khliehriat between 11 am to 3 pm on or before the 8th of June, 2021,” the notice by Sangma reads, adding, “The identity of the deponent will be kept secret on request.”
As per the district administration, at least five labourers, four from Assam and one from Tripura, are feared trapped in the 500-feet coal mine.
Meanwhile, as the mine was flooded the chances of the trapped workers’ survival are extremely remote although efforts are on to rescue them.
The Deputy Commissioner today informed that a rescue team had to mobilise the crane which was left abandoned to go down the pit which will take time due to heavy rains.
