The Madan Saitsnad in South West Khasi Hills district has been renamed after former deputy chief minister, Rowell Lyngdoh.
The name of the playground will now be known as “Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium, Mawlangwir”.
Lyngdoh passed away in March 2022. He was a former legislator of the state who got elected as member of the first Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 1972, the first Assembly elections conducted after Meghalaya became a full-fledged state. He represented the Mawkyrwat constituency in South West Khasi Hills district till 2018.
The name change was approved by the Mawlangwir Sports Club (MSC) and the dorbar shnong of Mawlangwir.
A function to announce the decision was held today wherein a commemorative inscription was also unveiled in honour of Lyngdoh in the presence of the family members.
