Participation of private individuals, NGOs and government schools from Meghalaya is lukewarm even when there is a bright opportunity for these states and union territories to have Sainik School established in the State.
The other states and union territories where the response was lukewarm are Manipur, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Stating this, the Defence Ministry said that a proactive drive to have Sainik School will have multiple effects in providing a window to address the aspirational needs of parents and students of such states and union territories.
Sainik Schools Society has invited private partners, NGOs and government schools of the 13 states and union territories to join the initiative for the benefit of the public at large.
Under the scheme of the opening of 100 new Sainik Schools, approved by the Central government, the Sainik Schools Society is in the process to grant approval to the interested schools to function under its aegis.
This scheme will provide an opportunity for students throughout the country to march ahead in tune with National Education Policy (NEP) along with following the Sainik School curriculum.
It is in line with the Government of India decision to provide an increased focus on value-based education enabling children to develop pride in the rich culture and heritage of this nation, effective leadership with character, discipline, sense of national duty and patriotism.
In the first phase, 100 affiliate partners are proposed to be drawn from state governments, NGOs or private partners.
The scheme is aimed at providing the Sainik School pattern of education to a larger cross-section of aspiring students all over the nation.
As many as 230 schools from various states have registered at https://sainikschool.ncog.gov.in.
In a paradigm shift to the existing pattern of Sainik Schools, the Union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in its meeting last week has approved the proposal for launching- of affiliated Sainik Schools under Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence. These Schools will function as an exclusive vertical which will be distinct and different from existing Sainik Schools of the Defence Ministry.
Schools approved by the Sainik Schools Society will start following Sainik School curriculum and activities from the next academic year (April 2022) from Class 6 onwards.
Other aspects of school management including training of teachers, implementation of sports and other extra-curricular activities will be intimated separately to the approved schools.
‘One School One Sport’ philosophy will also be implemented by the new Sainik Schools in order to focus and excel in at least one sports discipline identified for the State where the school is situated.
