Lt Gen KC Panchanathan, General Officer Commanding of 101 Area was cremated today with full military honours at the Happy Valley Crematorium here today.
Earlier the wreath laying ceremony was attended by a large no of military, Police, CAPF and civil officials who paid their last respects to the Late General.
Wreath on behalf of the government of Meghalaya was laid by PHE Minister, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, on behalf of the Assam government. Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff and the Chief of the Air Staff.
General Officer Commanding in Chief of Eastern Command, Lt Gen RP Kalita and Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal SP Dharkar were the senior most officers from Army and Airforce respectively who were present on the solemn occasion.
Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen PC Nair and senior officers from BSF, CRPF, Assam and Meghalaya Police and the IB also laid wreaths.
Lt Gen Panchanathan had passed away on December after suffering a heart attack.
