A legal awareness programme on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985” was held at Kiang Nangbah Government College in Jowai yesterday.
The programme was organised by the West Jaintia Hills District Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority with an aim to spread awareness amongst teachers and students about the ill effects of substance abuse and to sensitize students about drug menace and effective measures to curb it.
District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, N. A. Khan delivered a speech along with slide presentation about the act and illicit drug trafficking.
The resource persons, Sub Inspector JK Majaw, Mihmyntdu Comuunity Social Welfare Association TI – IDU, P. Lamare and N. Challam spoke on the role and function of police under the NDPS and substance abuse respectively.
An interaction session with the participants was also conducted.
