Shillong, Sep 12: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaintia Hills District, under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), yesterday organised a legal awareness programme at Kairang village.
The programme aimed to educate the community about their legal rights and the free services available to them. Key topics covered during the session included distinction between Civil and Criminal Law, Importance of filing an FIR, Right to Information Act, 2005, POCSO Act, 2012, NALSA Helpline (15100) and SMS Portal for legal aid.
The interactive session witnessed active participation from villagers, who asked questions and shared their concerns with the officials. The officials emphasized that an informed citizen is essential to justice, encouraging everyone to utilize the free legal services provided by DLSA.
The programme was part of DLSA’s efforts to promote legal awareness and empower communities to access justice. By educating citizens about their rights and available legal services, DLSA aims to promote social justice and equality.
