The Northeast India Audiovisual Archive at the Department of Mass Media at St Anthony’s College opened its four-day exhibition titled Legacy Threads here today.
Exploring family photo collections and community archives, the exhibition features collectives and organisations from the North East displaying their audiovisual collections.
From memories from the iconic Battle of Kohima during the Second World War, photographs of Darjeeling placed in a facsimile of a family’s sitting room, comics and more, the exhibition looks at delving into the rich narratives of the North East’s historical heritage.
Legacy Threads is supported by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation Japan. The participating collectives and organisations include Highland Group – This is Lamka, TakeOne, Ishi Place, Northeast Lightbox and Tahireh Lal, Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College Sikkim – The Lepcha Clan Stories, the Confluence Collective and The Northeast India Audiovisual Archive.
This exhibition aims to explore the diverse and vibrant histories, traditions and identities embedded in the hidden personal narratives captured within family collections and archives of various communities based in the North East.
“By bringing together a collection of photographs, video and audio presentations, letters, documents, artefacts and stories, the exhibition provides a nuanced glimpse into the familial, social, and cultural dimensions of the communities that call North East India, their home,” a press release stated.
The exhibition is open to everyone and entry is free. It runs from 11am to 6pm daily until March 9.
