The decision on who to appoint as the next president of the Congress Party in Meghalaya has to be left to the All India Congress Committee high command, party spokesperson Zenith Sangma said today.
Speculation is that MLAs Charles Pyngrope and Ampareen Lyngdoh or Shillong MP Vincent H Pala are the favourites.
Zenith said that nobody is in the race for the post of president but the party’s robust system of choosing its leaders will mean that the best person is appointed to the job.
Earlier this year, AICC official in charge of Meghalaya, Manish Chatrath, visited the state after incumbent Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Celestine Lyngdoh expressed his wish to be relieved of the post.
