Lazarus Sangma, the Chokpot legislator, has affirmed that none of the Trinamool Congress MLAs will defect to the National People’s Party (NPP), calling the claim a media bluff.
“It is an outrageous claim,” said Lazarus. “Although we know that the NPP leaders have been making rounds not only to TMC legislators but to all the different parties to poach the legislators, you can’t poach legislators with principles.”
He went on to say that the NPP has “weak leadership”, with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma blaming others for his own actions. This is in reference to the controversial border deal struck between Conrad and his counterpart in Assam; with rising opposition to the agreement, the CM tried to shift the blame for how the border is drawn on his predecessor, TMC leader Dr Mukul Sangma.
The Chokpot legislator claimed that the CM has done more harm than good for Meghalaya, especially Garo Hills, when it comes to education and other sectors.
