Shillong, Sep 6: Law Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh today said it is time the State government to review policies for the safety and security of the citizens at the earliest.
Her statement comes following the arrest of a businessman and 12 men believed to his bodyguards and the seizure of simulated weapons from three luxury cars parked opposite the Main Secretariat yesterday.
“Don’t know what tipped them, what prompted them to take that raid on the road,” she said and credited the police for swift action.
“With this exposure probably the government will be forced to look at the policies and review them at the earliest,” Lyngdoh said.
She also said that there should be no confusion to the public about “masking of interpretation of laws” and security provisions that citizens can have.
Lyngdoh said that perception of insecurity seems to be misguided and misinterpreted by few “heroes” calling themselves social media influencers.
Adding that the public should not be gullible she urged the citizens to stick to facts and interpretation of non factual information should be banned.
Lyngdoh said that the carrying of arms and subsequent seizure of the air pistols was fraudulent in nature. She said that the circulation of the images of the air rifles have spread fear.
She said Meghalaya should not reach the stage of America where gunmen use arms with impunity.
