Family and clan members of one Iban Laitphlang today issued a strong condemnation over a post on social media that, they say, maligns her image.
The screenshot of a Whatsapp message, purportedly from a leader of RAM, the association that purportedly represents sex workers, claimed that Laitphlang, a resident of Mission Compound in Shillong, is an indulges in illegal activities “at the behest of several bigwigs of the state,” the release from the Laitphlang clan said.
The accusations are completely unfounded and have caused Laitphlang a great deal of personal anguish, especially as it comes at a time when society is reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic. The signatories to the press release, A Laitphlang and David Laitphlang, demanded that the police take action against the perpetrators as well as an apology from the guilty.
Meanwhile, RAM later issued its own press release, saying that Laitphlang had joined the group in 2012 after espousing an interest in social work but had absconded with over Rs 4 lakh in funds after being made treasurer.
