The Laban Namghar Complex, Shillong flagged off its centenary celebrations with the formal inauguration of the Causeway at the entrance of the community hall by Anil Kumar, DIG CRPF.
The work was initiated and accomplished at an estimated cost of more than Rs 1.5 Lakh by the 67 battalion of CRPF as one of their civic action programmes. The work was executed under the leadership of Alok Bhattcharjee commandant of the battalion.
Bhattcharjee in his speech mentioned the historical significance which led to the growth of such institutions at Shillong. He informed that such Civic Action Programmes are taken up by the forces to help different communities not only in the urban areas but also in the rural areas as well.
He expressed happiness that he could be of some help to this institution which is celebrating its centenary.
Meanwhile, Kumar expressed that although CRPF at times is compelled to take strict measures, all this is required to maintain peace and harmony in the greater interest of the society.
“It is with such Civic Action programmes that the department tries to come close to the public, and for which his men in uniform are committed,” he added.
The president in charge Dr. Ashim Das of Laban Namghar Complex gave a brief history on how the institution started 100 years back with a small amount of Rs 50 as a donation.
The institution also felicitated CRPF personnel during the programme.
