Shillong, Oct 18: PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, Umroi Cantonment organised a special environmental awareness programme titled, ‘Green Talk 2025’ today themed, “Small Steps, Big Impact – Together for a Greener Tomorrow.”
The event brought together students, teachers, and staff to reflect on sustainable practices and ways to protect the environment.
Guest speaker Assistant Professor of NERIE, NCERT Shillong, Dr. Seema R. Nambiar delivered an insightful session that highlighted practical and meaningful steps towards sustainable living.
Dr. Nambiar emphasised the power of individual responsibility in shaping a collective greener future. She encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly habits such as reducing waste, avoiding single-use plastic, conserving water, and planting trees.
A special segment on waste management was also presented during the programme, covering important aspects such as Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, encouraging students to adopt sustainable consumption habits as well as promoting composting of food and garden waste to reduce landfill burden.
Students were taught about separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and e-waste collection.
Students actively participated in discussions, shared their ideas, and pledged to take small, daily actions for a cleaner and greener future.
The Principal of the school appreciated the initiative and stressed the importance of environmental education in shaping responsible citizens. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to adopt sustainable practices in daily life.
