The Khasi Students Union (KSU), NEHU unit has demanded that the Dr. Ambedkar Centre for Excellence ((DACE) in the university should be inclusive to students belonging to the Schedule Tribe.
DACE was set up by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to empower Scheduled Caste students in competitive exams by providing the best and free coaching facilities.
The student’s body met the nodal officer of the centre, Dr. Devendra K Biswal today to put forward their demand. They said they are not against the MoU signed between NEHU and DACE but ST students should also benefit from the centre.
Stating that the unit had met NEHU vice chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla soon after the agreement was entered in May, the KSU said they had received verbal assurances into the matter and wants authorities to consider the demand.
