Given the Covid-19 restrictions imposed on non-essential businesses, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has urged the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, to exempt bookstalls from the purview of the notice.
“Stationery and book stalls” were listed by Laloo today as among the shops and other businesses that must close from April 26 to May 2 in Greater Shillong.
The KSU said that students faced great hardships last year during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in procuring books for their studies.
The union suggested that bookshops be permitted to open on alternate days, as was the case last year.
