The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday met North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla and urged the university to recruit indigenous tribal of the state in Group B and C non-teaching positions.
It also expressed its anguish that one Nantu Das, assistant sports director and security in-charge, was allegedly involved in a case of molestation.
The KSU’s employment and monitoring cell in its missive to the VC stated that the union through its letter dated August 16, 2023 had expressed its concern over the recruitment of Assistant and Associate Professors in NEHU and the anomaly involved in the screening procedures.
The union has also urged the appropriate authorities, that indigenous tribals of the state should be given preference over others if they are qualified for such post but, to their utter dismay, certain individual(s) who have been selected and recruited by the university were not at all capable of justifying their selection.
“Further, there were local indigenous tribals who were also well qualified and capable for such posts but they were not preferred even after having the desired qualification,” the pressure group said.
Moreover, the union also expressed its anguish that Das was allegedly involved in molestation at NEHU.
The KSU stated that this again leads to the supposition and postulation that local indigenous tribals should be preferred for the safety and security of the students.
