A member of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) was killed and another injured after a 14-wheeler truck laden with coal overturned at Moolichah bridge on the way from Shangpung to Jowai under West Jaiñtia Hills district.
The victim was identified as Ribul Chullet (33), a member of the union, Shangpung unit, sources said. Another person, identified as Soni Sungoh was rescued at around 11 pm after he was trapped inside the truck.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 7 pm.
West Jaiñtia Hills Superintendent of Police, BD Marak said that the truck bearing registration number RJ 21 GC 1758 has all the required documents and challan numbering 008509 which is valid up to February 13, 2021 for transporting coal from Khliehriat to Assam.
Marak said the accident victim had asked for a lift from the truck driver (who is now absconding) from Shangpung to Phramer.
