The Nongpoh circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) met with the Executive Engineer of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL) today to address the irregular shutdown of electricity in the district headquarters of Nongpoh and the rest of Ri-Bhoi.
The union members expressed their concern over the frequent and irregular shutdowns of electricity, which have caused severe difficulties for local offices, students, entrepreneurs and residents.
KSU Nongpoh circle general secretary, Baiashanlang Kharshanlor, informed the media that the pressure group demanded that electricity shutdowns should only occur during the night and not at other times when people need electricity the most.
The union also conducted an inspection at Mawdaron in Saiden village after receiving complaints from local residents about rusting electricity posts, which pose a threat to the lives of the people in the area.
The MePDCL Executive Engineer reportedly assured the KSU that necessary action will be taken to address their grievances.
