The Narpuh unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) expressed concern on the frequent disruption of electricity in East Jaintia Hills.
Stating that the frequent power cuts, especially in the Narpuh region, continue to disturb the population, the KSU’s Sanatomba Bamon urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
The KSU also criticised the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) for not being able to guarantee a stable power supply even as children prepare for their school examinations. The pressure group also slammed the area’s MDCs, MLAs and MP for not taking action to resolve the matter.
“Our people here go on for weeks without power supply while the collection for the electricity bill never fails to happen,” the KSU said, adding that the Power Department cannot persist in turning a blind eye.
However, the KSU said that despite the public constantly facing power cuts, such problems do not appear to befall the cement factories around Narpuh, which never seem to be without electricity.
