The Mawkyrwat circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has requested the government to place Sarin, Nongkynbah and Nongpdengkynbah under Mawkyrwat Community and Rural Development Block, moving them out of Ranikor C&RD Block.
In a memorandum to Community and Rural Development Minister Hamletson Dohling, the KSU justified the demand by pointing out that the three villages are only 25 kilometres away from Mawkyrwat compared to around 50km from Ranikor.
The greater distance is costly in terms of taxi fares, time and energy when members of the public have to visit the C&RD office to avail of various schemes or grants.
