One day after alleging that a supplier – Jindal (India) Ltd – was providing sub-standard pipes for Jal Jeevan Mission water projects in Ri-Bhoi, the Khasi Students Union submitted a formal complaint in this regard to the Deputy Commissioner of the district, RM Kurbah.
The KSU’s Ri-Bhoi unit supposedly made this discovery as a truck was unloading a consignment of pipes in Umsning. According to the pressure group, the pipes supplied by Jindal (India) Ltd weigh only 6.05kg each, less than the contracted 7.38kg.
The KSU took it into its hands to probe the matter after receiving several complaints from the public, it said.
Its leaders accused vested interests of profiting from this “scam” and demanded a magisterial inquiry, failing which it will move the Meghalaya Lokayukta for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe.
