Seven suspected Bangladeshis were detained by the Khasi Students Union (KSU) in Tongseng Narpuh under East Jaiñtia Hills district.
According to the KSU Narpuh circle, the apprehended persons, that included five women and two men, were travelling in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number AS24 C 2140.
KSU Narpuh circle publicity secretary, Mihasalan Truh said these persons had boarded the vehicle from Ratacherra to Ladrymbai and were immediately handed over to police in Lumshnong. Truh said that many fake identity cards were found from their possession
The persons were identified as Md Jubar Ahmed (26), Md Nur Ahmed (24) and all women are under the age of 18.
The KSU felt the continuous entry of suspected Bangladeshis into the state pose a danger to the demographic profile of the state and questioned the functions of the infiltration check gate.
