The Mawkyrwat unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), the Seng Samla Shnong and headman of Nonglang village, South West Khasi Hills, today met the district Superintendent of Police, BJ Laloo, to demand that the police officer accused of assaulting a youth of the village be transferred.
The incident reportedly took place on August 9.
Ïengskhem Syiemlieh, the KSU unit vice-president, termed the act as barbaric and illegal and urged the authority concerned to arrest and punish the guilty party.
Francis Kharlyngdoh, general secretary of the Seng Samla Shnong Nonglang, said that the body has always cooperated with the police to bring about peace and security but such an assault on a youth without reason is unacceptable. He also alleged that this was not the first incident of its kind.
