The Khasi Students Union, Laban circle has demanded immediate removal of settlers for illegally raising cowsheds in the city.
The union said that the settlers are illegal using the areas that falls under the jurisdiction of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) at Laban, Lower Lumparing, Maxwelton Estate and Lawsohtun.
Members of the KSU under its environment cell today conducted their own inspection of the places and said that the cowsheds were raised without any authorisation even from the dorbar shnongs.
According to the KSU, the settlers are posing risk to the environment and streams nearby.
Demanding that the authorities concern should immediately shift the cowshed and take action against the illegal settlers, the KSU said they would soon petition the Deputy Commissioner and the SMB on the issue.
