The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has demanded that a measure be adopted to increase the number of medical seats in the state quota that go to tribals.
If a Khasi-Jaintia or Garo person scores high enough marks, the KSU wants them to be considered in the general category, thereby giving the reserved MBBS place to a tribal with lower marks.
The pressure group also said that students who are fit for the all-India quota after getting through NEET should be allowed to opt for anything no matter what category they are from.
Meanwhile, the KSU has also demanded that the Health and Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh ensure that non-domiciled persons should not be able to weasel their way onto the state quota, as had happened recently.
