The Khasi Students Union (KSU), Lai Hima Zone met Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Minister Hamletson Dohling to request for a new C&RD block centred at Wahkaji or Umdohlun in South West Khasi Hills district.
Having a C&RD block for Umdohlun, Phlangdiloin and Wahkaji areas would cut journey times for people who have to travel three hours on foot to Ranikor civil sub-division and about 60 kms to Mawkyrwat, the district headquarter, the KSU said.
Pointing out that the area is one of the remotest and secluded regions in the State the organisation said there is a need for a new C&RD block in either of the two areas.
The KSU also listed 44 villages that would cover under the block, if the government considers the demand.
