Mawkyrwat, Oct 2: The Khasi Students Union (KSU), South West Khasi Hills District has given the government one month to appoint a teacher at Nongrim Warding Government Lower Primary School, located in Mawsynram area.
According to the union the school, which was established in 1972 now has over 50 students. However, the school is now functioning with a volunteer teacher for four months after the death of a regular teacher.
KSU district Education Secretary Evansroy Nongrem said the managing committee of the school pays the salary of the volunteer teacher. He expressed concern and stated that this is because of lack of concern on the part of the Education Department.
He said the people of the area have raised the issue with the MLA but to no avail and asked the government to immediately appoint a teacher within a month.
