Shillong, Nov 29: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed serious concerns over the delayed implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and a “crippling” job scenario in Meghalaya.
Speaking at the KSU Laban Circle’s 30-year anniversary, KSU President Lambokstar Marngar criticised the Central government’s inaction since the state passed an ILP resolution on December 19, 2019, and questioned the handling of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).
Marngar emphasised the necessity of addressing these pressing issues promptly.
He urged KSU units to stay vigilant and youth to unite for the safety of Khasi people.
“Let’s stay alert and united to protect our land,” Marngar added.
Laban Circle President Reuben Najiar echoed similar sentiments, insisting on the need to advocate for indigenous rights and fair job opportunities. He said many job seekers find themselves in a system that is riddled with favouritism, where vacancies often remain unadvertised and the processes favour candidates with political connections.
He said the KSU will continue to fight for fair opportunities and the issues raised by the union that remained unfulfilled.
Distribution of souvenirs, felicitation of students who excel in various levels of examination, sports etc marked the programme.
