The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Diengpasoh unit conducted a cleaning drive of the Diengpasoh Viewpoint and parts of the Shillong Bypass yesterday while issuing a warning against further despoiling of the area.
In a statement issue here, the unit’s President, Agnes Kharsati, said that the place was littered with plastic packets and liquor bottles, thrown by people visiting the area, which has turned it into an eyesore.
The cleaning drive was conducted by KSU members in the presence of the President of the Mawryngkneng Tourism Promotion Society, Wanlambok Kharsati, and its members.
“Hundreds of people come to this place, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, and litter the area and also break bottles with no regard to the environment and with a total lack of civic sense, which is unacceptable,” Kharsati said.
The KSU, while welcoming people to visit the place, said that they should maintain cleanliness in the area or face punishment as per the law.
