All is not well in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Meghalaya, at least according to the Khasi Students Union, which claimed today to have discovered that a contracted firm is supplying poor quality pipes for use in the project.
The KSU’s Ri-Bhoi unit supposedly made this discovery as a truck was unloading a consignment of pipes in Umsning. According to the pressure group, the pipes supplied by Jindal (India) Ltd weigh only 6.05kg each, less than the contracted 7.38kg.
The KSU took it into its hands to probe the matter after receiving several complaints from the public, it said.
Its leaders accused vested interests of profiting from this “scam” and demanded a magisterial inquiry.
