The President of the Khasi Jaiñtia National Union (KJNU), Niman Shadap, has lodged an FIR against one Dapoiwanmi Laloo for allegedly threatening him at gunpoint over a cattle smuggling operation.
Addressing the media here today, Shadap said that yesterday evening members of the KJNU apprehended Assam-registered trucks at Ummulong Ksehlakiang that were transporting cattle illegally with the intention, he said, of smuggling them into Bangladesh. The KJNU subsequently filed an FIR in this matter.
According to Shadap, Laloo, a resident of Chilliangraij Jowai, claimed the cattle belonged to him and demanded that the KJNU withdraw the FIR and held Shadap at gunpoint while threatening him and his family with dire consequences if he did not comply.
The KJNU leader alleged that Laloo is a prolific cattle smuggler and recalled that the East Jaiñtia Hills police had filed an FIR against him for similar activities.
“We demand that stern action should be taken against such a person according to the law,” he added.
