The ‘Kisan Bhagidari, Prathmikta Hamari’ campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav for farmers was organised by the office of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jaiñtia Hills which was attended by 97 farmers from the district.
The campaign was organised in association with the office of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at Wahiajer yesterday.
KVK senior scientist and head, Dr. D. Pasweth highlighted the achievements made in the farm sector since independence and informed about the various programmes initiated by the central and state government s for the benefit of farmers.
ADO, S. Syngkon spoke on the PM Kisan Scheme and also talked about the importance of farmer’s identity cards for availing government schemes.
A cash award was also handed over Foster Kharsahnoh a progressive farmer from Sohphoh Village of Thadlaskein block at the programme for his achievement in mushroom production, poultry and pig farming and vegetables cultivation.
An interaction session was also held between the famers and Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), H. Papang and SMS (Horticulture) B. Kharbamon on natural farming, orchard management, role of bio-agent in agriculture for controlling pests and diseases.
A demonstration of agriculture equipments such as portable solar dryer, power operated maize sheller, pedal paddy thresher, hand hoe and manual seeder was also held during the programme.
Maize and vegetables seeds were also distributed to the farmers.
