The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has readied its first list of candidates for next year’s delayed Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections and will reveal the names soon.
KHNAM working president Thomas Passah confirmed this while informing that he will run for the Jaiaw constituency.
The small regional party has no representation in the KHADC, Jaintia Hills ADC or State Assembly.
Passah said that the party manifesto will focus on amending the Scheduled Tribe order of 1950 so that it is not misused by others and to amend another rule to ensure that only indigenous tribes are allowed to vote in the district council elections.
“We have been in preparation mode since the beginning of the year trying to carefully scrutinise the candidates from various constituencies,” he added.
