The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) yesterday donated five solar streetlights and nine house lights to Domïasiat, South West Khasi Hills, a village that has otherwise gone without proper electricity supply.
KHNAM President Strongpillar K Jana said that the donation is a Christmas gift to the village, which has been the focal point for opposition to uranium mining in the state for years.
The KHNAM leader lauded the late Spelity Lyngdoh Langrin for resolutely opposing uranium mining until the day she died, back in October.
“We hope that the successors of the late Langrin follow in her footsteps and always stand by her principles and never allow uranium mining in the area,” he said.
