Shillong, Jan 19:A traditional Khasi mural showcasing heritage and culture was today unveiled by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Mawlai Mawiong Rim.
The mural was installed to mark two decades since the establishment of Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun, a youth organisation working to preserve indigenous culture and engage young people in constructive activities.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated the Seng Samla, Mawlai Pyllun, on achieving the milestone. He stressed on importance of traditional youth organisations and urged the youth to take advantage of the programs and schemes for development, upliftment and engagement.
The Chief Minister emphasised on the need to strengthen the youth in a competitive world. “While we have our constitutional provisions to safeguard our rights let us not be complacent but prepare ourselves to compete with the best in the world,” he said.
He said that the traditional mural showcasing the culture of the Khasis will also serve as a visual appeal and a lively welcome for the tourists entering Shillong.
Memorandums by the Dorbar Shnong and Seng Samla organisations of the locality, raising some concerns and needs of Mawlai area were also presented to the Chief Minister.
