Meghalaya’s lone Rajya Sabha MP, Wanweiroy Kharlukhi, has assured the Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) that he will take up the issue of implementing an 80:20 female-male ratio in nurse recruitment at NEIGRIHMS.
Today’s HYC delegation met with Kharlukhi to discuss the appointment policy of NEIGRIHMS, which the pressure group has been strongly protesting against.
The HYC pointed out that AIIMS and other medical colleges have already implemented this ratio and there is no reason why NEIGRIHMS cannot follow suit.
Another pressure group has already reached out to the two Lok Sabha MPs from Meghalaya, Saleng Sangma (Tura) and Ricky Syngkon (Shillong) and have reportedly received their support.
Kharlukhi stated, “I will meet the MPs and try to take it up (with the central government). The main issue is about the appointment policy of NEIGRIHMS. Even in AIIMS, they are doing that 80:20 female-male ratio and other medical colleges have also done it, so we will take it up.”
