The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will strictly deal with staff and officers of the council who fail to perform their duties or attend office, Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne said on the last day of the budget session here today.
Departments will also be reorganized in order to streamline their functioning, he added.
Chyne, who admitted that the style of functioning of the KHADC is very sluggish, said, “Many works remain pending for four-six months. A file that should be processed within a week takes months and one of the major reasons is that some of our departments do not have any activities and our staff are sitting idle while some seldom come to the office but always draw their salaries.”
The KHADC has a strength of 800 employees.
“Our staff in the Forest Department are many but the forests under the council’s lookout are deteriorating day by day. We need to reorganize and streamline everything and deal sternly with those failing in their duty,” the CEM stated.
