The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today tabled a vote on account amounting to Rs 35, 44, 55,600 for the three months from April 1.
This was done on the opening day of the KHADC’s budget session.
Executive Member Seiborlang Warbah said that the vote on account has been presented because the budget from the previous Executive Committee will conclude on March 31, 2025.
He said the vote on account will allow the KHADC to cover various expenditures incurred by different departments, including the General Administration, Law, Revenue, Budget & Finance, Legislative, Education, and Civil Works & Development departments, as well as the Enforcement Scheme for Protection of Tribal Land and Interests.
Meanwhile, the budget session also focussed on several key matters.
Chief Executive Member (CEM) Shemborlang Rynjah informed that the district council will consider the appointment of Legal Advisers, as suggested by members of the house.
At present the KHADC has TT Diengdoh as a member of the Standing Counsel, who was appointed on December 16, 2021 and receives a salary of Rs 12,250, the house was informed.
In response to a query from Grace Mary Kharpuri, the MDC for Nongskhen Constituency, regarding the conduct of the Monolith Festival, Rynjah stated that the EC has yet to make a decision on this matter.
Furthermore, Rynjah informed the house that the KHADC owns 11 plantations located in Umshing, Lailad-Umling, Sohlait, Umtham, Umsaw, Byrnihat, Lumsohpetbneng, Aradonga, etc.
Among the topics discussed were the suspension of the Syiem of the Nobosohphoh Syiemship and the reconstitution of the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission.
Additionally, Executive Member Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin announced that the EC will look into the establishment of a branch office for the Council in Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills.
In response to a question raised by MDC EL Nongrang, the EM indicated that an inspection had previously been conducted; however no official agreement has been reached to set up the office.
The KHADC also elected Mawhati MDC Kynjohlang Rangthong as the new Deputy Chairman of the district council.
