Mylliem MDC Ronnie Lyngdoh today said that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) should seek financial assistance from the central government to assist grant-in-aid schools under the council.
In a supplementary question asked by Mawkyrwat MDC Carnes Sohshang on the intention of the executive committee to increase the grant-in-aid to schools under the council, Lyngdoh said that the number of school dropouts in rural areas is huge and there is a need for financial assistance from the central government, like from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, to boost the education system in rural areas, especially through the establishment of lower primary schools.
Earlier, Executive Member in charge, Martle Mukhim, said that grant-in-aid is subject to the KHADC’s availability of funds.
