The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has urged the State government not to extend the operation of Civil Procedure Code (CPC) and Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the tribal areas on the State.
“If the government desire to empower the normal court in various districts to try cases involving non-tribals, only certain provision of CrPc and CPC could perhaps be make applicable after thorough discussion with all stakeholders,” KHADC CEM Titosstarwell Chyne said in a letter to the Chief Minister.
Informing that the district council has taken a resolution to oppose the proposal, Chyne said that if CrPc and CPC are being made operational in tribal areas, it will have adverse impact on the jurisdiction of the district council courts and also the traditional court like village court and additional sub-ordinate district council courts.
