Shillong, Aug 6: After not receiving clarity despite multiple letters sent to the District Council Affairs (DCA) department seeking an explanation for the delay in releasing the council’s share of funds, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Shemborlang Rynjah, along with Executive Member for Finance Seiborlang Warbah, met DCA Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday to follow up on the matter.
In addition to urging the release of the council’s pending funds from the state government, the CEM also raised other issues concerning the functioning of the council.
During the meeting, Rynjah submitted a memorandum detailing the council’s financial needs. He expressed concern that the KHADC is yet to receive its share of funds, even though other Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) have reportedly received theirs.
The CEM said the discussion focused on the KHADC’s entitlement and the pressing need for financial assistance. He also flagged a proposal seeking support for research and in-depth studies on the socio-cultural conditions of the indigenous population.
According to Rynjah, while the Deputy CM did not specify the reason behind the delay, he has directed the DCA Department to examine the matter and determine the cause for the non-release of funds.
This meeting comes in the backdrop of the KHADC’s executive committee, led by the Voice of the People Party (VPP), passing a budget on June 24 for the financial year 2025–2026, which reflected a deficit of Rs 5,24,640. While the projected income is significant, the committee noted that estimated expenditures still exceed revenue.
