Shillong, Aug 1: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has instructed the Himas to direct all dorbar shnongs and dorbar raids to be vigilant about possible influx of the evicted people and illegal immigrants from Assam.
Assam, has been witnessing a series of five massive eviction exercises in June and July targeting alleged illegal immigrants in various areas. Since then, the State government has also alerted district administrations to be alert of possible influx.
Several Meghalaya districts share borders with Assam. These include West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and East Jaintia Hills.
The KHADC sent a notification to all Himas and Elakas on Friday to ensure there is no infiltration or movement because of the Assam eviction drive, and if any to report the matter to State authorities.
