The start of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) budget session today saw strong criticism by the opposition towards the state government’s supposed delay to release funds under the Tied Scheme 2020-2021 earmarked for the council by the 15th Finance Commission.
Mawkhar MDC Pynshngainlang Syiem criticized the state government for, he said, delaying the scheme by not releasing Rs 45 crore from the Centre since June.
The council should not only receive the full amount but also interest on the Rs 45 crore, he added.
Mylliem MDC Ronnie Lyngdoh, meanwhile, accused the government of trying to weaken the KHADC and questioned whether the Public Health Engineering Department did not have its own funds, leading it to try and take the council’s share.
Meanwhile, Executive Member Martle Mukhim said that the state government has released Rs 20.475 crore, which is the basic grant from the untied scheme.
On the remaining Rs 20.475 crore, he said that the KHADC has discussed the matter with the government, which promised to look into the matter.
